Catching Up on Trade & Transformation

First of all, I've got to share the work that Shirley Hazlett did with the simple pool hose I gave her!
In case you can't see the detail on the newspaper, it's the Wall Street Journal on the election of Barak Obama.  I think it's a brilliant conceptual piece.  This project at Tangent Gallery was so much fun.  And it gave me the chance to meet Shirley and hope that I get to see much more of  her in the future.  She's a marvelous artist.

Remember the pile of fabric strips painted in black that Shirely gave me?  If not, scroll down to the last post.  Well after looking at it for three weeks in my studio, I painted the strips, then ripped and cut them and decided that I would "paint" with them:

I also took the more transparent strips and stapled them to the back of the canvas creating a veil.  So the red that I painted on is somewhat obscured.  Do you think it says anything?

If you get a chance to get down to Tangent, I highly recommend this show.  The artists involved did fabulous work and totally transformed what they received from the other participating artists.

2nd Saturday Relay

This coming 2nd Saturday art walk in Sacto will be a sort of a relay race for me as I have work at three different galleries in three different parts of town!  First I'll be at Tangent Gallery, where I was invited to be part of the "Trade and Transform" show!  Wonderful Sacramento artist Shirely Hazlett gave me this:
You'll have to come down to Tangent (2900 Franklin near 4th Ave) to see what I'm made from those strips!  I'm delighted to share a show with all these talented local artists.  I'll be here at 6 pm for about 45 minutes.

  Then it's over to 1519 19th Street
Sacramento (19th St between O & P Sts.) to the Center for Contemporary Art for the exhibit of art that will be in their fund-raising art auction!  The biggest piece of art I've ever produced is there - Power #1 - which is 48 x 62".  I'll be there about 7 pm.

At about 7:45, I'll head over to the Temporary Contemporary Gallery (1616 Del Paso Blvd) where I was invited to participate in the "Small but Mighty" show that D. Neath is curating.  I'm just jazzed to be showing with such wonderful artists in that show!

There is also a Thursday night sneak preview that I might be at later in the evening.  I'm heading into San Francisco today to catch the Post-Impressionistic exhibit at the deYoung Museum and the next evening will be home to attend Writers Who Wine, a great group of writers that I hang with when I can.  Hope I see you at one of the galleries on Sat!

At least locally in the Sacramento region is found right HERE!

Big thanks to Jan who came over to the studio to interview me.  She crafted a nice little article from our far ranging hour long conversation!

Yes, even Winged Coyotes want Peace.  Today is Peace Globe Day, the brain child of Mimi Lennox a wonderful blogger and damn good writer.  This is my third year to participate in this endeavor for bloggers all around the world to just blog about Peace.

Personally I believe the path to Peace is having more women involved in government and politics.  There's a marvelous book out there called Women, Power, and the Biology of Peace by Judith Hand which explains this concept far better than I can.  It deals with how hormones are linked to aggression and the gender difference.

Here's to a world where people can give up their fears of each other and live in Peace!
