Is it hot out here?

As you can tell by the photo of the cobwebby thermometer that we have outside in the shade, it cooled down to 104 degrees by almost 7 pm!

I got so caught up with doing work in the studio and searching for my little video camera that I forgot to go get an egg and see if it would actually cook on the black asphalt of Southgate Road.

I don't have as many NadaDada photos as I thought I did... boo.... but after I finish processing them, I can move on to the Santa Fe Trip Photos.... some really gret ones there!

Photos from NadaDada....

are on their way to the internet, after being processed on the hard drive! Since I shot in both RAW and JPG, it takes hours to download them... I know, I just shouldn't take that many pictures!

But to amuse you my Gentle Readers while I labor away, I must share the most amazing thing that happened to me there. I was mucking about with the volume on the video, when I turned around and - SHOCK - there was the ghost of SK James trying to murder Judy and Wayne! I had my camera handy and took this shot.

I stepped back in disbelief, shook my head and rubbed my eyes and presto, he was gone. Some say the El Cortez Hotel is haunted. But then there is the string theory of physics which says (among other things, don't ask me, I'm no scientist) that there could be up to 11 different parallel universes operating at the same time. I used that idea in a play called "Looking for Richard 3", produced in 1999 I think.

In art news from friends, Khim Marshall has directed a fabulous little film that is now available for your viewing pleasure on You Tube. It also features my friend Gary Agid. It also features a young actor who is also good, her name is JayNay.

NadaDada and back

Got home in enough time so the Hubby and I could take his Dad out to dinner for Father's Day. Big round of applause to the folks who bought some of my work (YAY) and to the great comments from folks who stopped by to see it. Wanted to wait until the show was over before posting the videos that were part of the installation on You Tube. This one that features my Motel Variations series. But I think the one that I'll post tomorrow is more successful, stay tuned! Special thanks to Mike Crain for allowing me to use his great composition "Body Seams". I used the Dada "chance" technique of both writing the text I voiced and of placing it in the video. The sources of the text range from "The Posthuman Dada Guide: tzara and lenin play chess" by Andrei Codrescu to the internet musings of anonymous folks and stream of consciousness writing by yours truly.

Getting Closer

First of all, since the photos always load first and it's a pain in the butt to move them around... this is a painting that my friend Cherie Hacker (a wonderful artist anyway) did of her new grandson.

The kicker to this is that she painted this with her foot! Her ankle got crushed in a car accident in Feb and she was doing physical therapy and thought why not try it with a paintbrush between her toes!

Why is it that after a video has been authored to DVD and you play it, you see all sorts of edits that need to be made? I know, I'm barking up a black hole, to really mix metaphors. Have all the of the stuff that we'll need (I Hope) for the installation with the blow up dolls and the lingerie. Now if only Chad will take me up on my offer to help install on Wed afternoon.... please..... Not only will you see my new work.... including images of colorful, winged coyotes.... but CynStones decadent jewelry and "Sex Sells Art Starves" posters by Cherie Hacker. And that's just in room 212 of the El Cortez Hotel! You don't want to miss the work of my girls Diana and Trelaine, who has just posted a video on making roses from chicken skin on facebook!

Across Arlington at the Town House Motor Lodge, you'll find more artists, like my other friend, Liv Mo. You'll be able to ask her about those potatoes.

And News Flash... Cynthia and I have come up with a way to make our installation interactive! For only $5, you can have your photo taken on the bed with the blow-up dolls and it will be put in a classy card that Cyn and I will sign it for you. Hey, it's worth the drive just to have that special photo! See you in Reno, baby!

I'm still working on the video portion of the installation and am now on version 3... Think I'll still post version 2 which features most of the motel series art on you tube anyway.... but in listening to Mike Crain's music - "Body Seams" - I realized I needed to be more sensual with it.... and then I started playing with fractals.... will still have all the new canvases (I'm now doing a canvas giclee master of the work and then numbered digital C prints - on a lambda press) and prints. and the art above is one of the stills for version 3.... come on to Reno and see some more.....

Unfortunately Cynthia and I will not be performing the erotic poetry and bawdy limericks this year as advertised. I did something to my shoulder this past week and Cynthia's back has been out so we haven't been able to rehearse. Neither of us wanted to do the 15 min of intense poetry with paper in our hands... sigh ... maybe we should start rehearsing next year in April!

Gearing up for Nada Dada

Feverish work is the name of the game here at the studio. Only 14 more days until I leave to begin work on the installation at Nada Dada Motel! I know I haven't posted any of the photos from our aborted vacation - JK had to leave to help his sister with his dad who was in the hospital - but soon my dear readers! Notice that I'm not saying how soon.

If you haven't already got tickets for Beyond the Proscenium's "My Name is Rachel Corrie", which got great reviews in both of the local fish wraps, then you might want to call and see if you can get on a waiting list for one of the nights (Fri & Sat @ 8 pm) from now until June 13th. Or try for a Sunday matinee at 2 pm. I think we're just about sold out, but sometimes folks make reservations and then life intervenes in unpleasant ways. Because of our travel plans, I won't see it until this Friday, but have heard nothing but rave reviews for how Karen Nylund has done a great job directing Tygar Hicks, an amazing young actress who plays the title role. Rene DeGarmo's set is wonderful as well.

I'm going to try to work on some transfers to bring up to NadaDada in addition to the new Motel Variation pieces I'm working on. I'm also working on a video for the installation which will feature blow up dolls... hehehehe But said video will feature music by Mike Crain! It's a digital looping piece called "Body Seams". I'd describe it as erotic but haunting, beautiful but frightening. Thanks again Mike for letting me use it!
